Hex key and point sizes for DIN 913
Pitch is the ISO metric coarse thread. The hex key size is the same across the common sizes of these four standards; check the exact flat point diameter against the governing standard.

Choosing material and finish
- Alloy steel 45H is the usual choice for machinery. 45H is a hardness class, not a tensile class such as 8.8.
- Black oxide suits oiled indoor machinery; choose stainless A2 or A4 where corrosion matters.
- Stainless set screws are softer than 45H, so confirm the holding torque for the shaft.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a set screw and a grub screw?
They are the same product. Grub screw is the common name in the UK and Europe; set screw is the common name in the US.
What hex key fits an M6 set screw?
A 3 mm hex key for DIN 913 to 916 and ISO 4026 to 4029 set screws.
Which set screw point is best for a shaft?
A cup point (DIN 916) is the usual choice for general shaft locking. Use a flat point (DIN 913) when the shaft must not be marked or the screw is adjusted often.
What does 45H mean on a set screw?
45H is the hardness class for steel set screws. These screws are not given tensile classes such as 8.8 or 12.9.
What is the MOQ for set screws?
Reference MOQ is 500 pcs per specification. This product is made to order, so lead time and price are confirmed with each quotation. We reply to every RFQ within 2 working hours.
