Sizing a sleeve anchor
Sleeve anchors are named by the bolt thread, but the hole is drilled to the outside diameter of the sleeve, which is larger than the thread and differs between makers. An M8 sleeve anchor commonly uses a 10 mm sleeve and hole, but always check the drill diameter on the anchor's data before ordering drill bits.
- Length = fixture thickness + embedment in the base material.
- Brick and block need longer anchors than concrete for the same load.
- Do not overtighten in soft masonry; the sleeve can crush the hole.
Sleeve vs wedge vs drop-in
| Anchor | Base material | Install through fixture | Removable bolt |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sleeve anchor | Concrete, brick, block | Yes | Bolt type only |
| Wedge anchor | Solid concrete | Yes | No |
| Drop-in anchor | Solid concrete | No (set first, flush) | Yes |

Frequently asked questions
What drill size for an M8 sleeve anchor?
Drill to the sleeve outside diameter, commonly 10 mm for an M8 sleeve anchor. Check the anchor's data, because sleeve diameters vary between makers.
Can sleeve anchors be used in brick?
Yes. Sleeve anchors expand along their length, so they can be used in solid brick and block as well as concrete. Loads are lower than in concrete.
Are sleeve anchors removable?
The hex-bolt type lets you remove the bolt and fixture; the sleeve stays in the hole. Hex-nut types are generally permanent.
What is the MOQ for sleeve anchors?
Reference MOQ is 500 pcs per specification. Standard sizes typically ship in 10–15 days and made-to-order sizes in 25–30 days, confirmed with each quotation. We reply to every RFQ within 2 working hours.
